Foster
Providing a safe, loving home to a cat or kitten in need is a generous act of kindness. It is more than providing a cat a temporary home. It's a way to bring joy into a cat's and your life while supporting Furever After Rescue.
Being quite a small not-for-profit rescue organisation, we couldn't do what we do without the help foster carers. We encourage you to consider being a foster carer today. It is a very rewarding experience.
What does it mean to foster a cat?
During the fostering period, which can last several months, you'll help feed them with quality food and fresh water, keep their kitty litter cleaned on a daily base, and spend quality time with them each day to socialise and keep them stimulated.
Due to our limited resources and time, ideally our foster carers are also able to transport the cat or kitten to our partner vets for vaccinations or check-ups, and to be available to have prospective furever families come to your house for meet and greets for the cat in your care.
Are you ready to foster a cat?
We are always in need of foster carers. However, although you may be tempted to foster as soon as possibly, it is important to make sure you are prepared to bring home a new pet. Please be sure to consider:
Family members. Fostering involves everybody in your home. Ensure everyone in the family is comfortable and willing to welcome a foster cat.
Supplies. Do you have the necessary things to make your home a cat's home too? Do you have appropriate cat food, toys, kitty litter, blanket, drinking bowl, and pet carrier?
Space. Your foster will need their own space to eat, sleep, and play.
Time. Do you have enough time to care for your foster cat (on top of all your other responsibilies)? Can you provide a loving home for a period of 1-3 months?
Patience. Your new cat, especially if they have not known life indoors, may need time learning how to use a litter box. They may need extra time to decompress and get used to being indoor and in the company of humans. They may take a while to learn that you won't hurt them and that they can trust you. They need your patience.
So, ready to take the next step?
Once you decide it's time to open your home to foster a cat, please fill out our Foster Carer Application Form, which will require your contact information and details about your living situation and your current pets.
When we receive and review your application and find you a suitable candidate, we will give you a call to get to know you further. This will also allow us to choose the best cat for you based on your experience, living situation, availability, and resources.
